NORMAN EBENSTEIN
Former President and Chairman Board
Capital Commercial Properties, Inc.

Norman ‘Norm’ Ebenstein, Our Previous CEO

Born on October 23, 1928, in New York City, Norman Ebenstein was mainly raised in Worcester, Massachusetts by his parents, Samuel and Jeannette Ebenstein. Raised in a devoutly Jewish household, Norman appreciated the value of the education his parents gave him and instilled the same love of learning in both his children and his grandchildren.

Norman Ebenstein founded Capital Commercial Properties and served as the company’s president for over 50 years. In that time, the company acquired a diverse real estate portfolio that included shopping malls, commercial centers, and multifamily residential sites. Norm Ebenstein was particularly proud of helping to revitalize the Eden Center in Falls Church, Virginia. The new facilities helped one of the East Coast’s largest Vietnamese-American communities grow and flourish. This is only one of Norm’s long-term legacies that will continue helping communities for decades to come. Norman made significant contributions to non-profit groups at the regional and national levels. He created the Norman Ebenstein Foundation to further his philanthropic activity and gave of his own time to serve as President of his local B’nai B’rith chapter.

Norman attended Phillips Exeter before receiving a degree in economics from Brown University. Beyond studying hard, Norman also cultivated a reputation as a fearsome pitcher for the university’s varsity baseball team. The Brown years were also when Norman met Shirley Gorlick, whom he would marry and raise a family with over the course of 65 years.

For further education, Norm Ebenstein attended Boston University and earned a law degree which he parlayed into a successful career as a lawyer. In his later years, Norman was devoted to tennis. Not only did he play into his 80s, he also placed 19th in the “45 and over” rankings for New England.

Living out the final years of his life in his adopted community of Boca Raton, Norman Ebenstein passed away peacefully on December 20, 2016. We honor his life with a profound sense of gratitude for his accomplishments and a great sadness for his loss. Norman’s love for his family, memorable personality, and formidable intellect.

Norman’s wife Shirley continues to live in Boca Raton. He is also survived by his children, Douglas Ebenstein and Jaime Ruth Ebenstein and his grandchildren Lisa and Lori Ebenstein.
